A Health-Orientated Understanding Of The Body- Mind Module2

A Health-Orientated Understanding Of The Body-Mind - Module 2

Three-part course
with Andrew Cook

Module 2 : Deepening Biological Health

This is the second in a series of two courses modules. Continuing on from Module 1, incorporating and extending the practical exercises but going into more theoretical depth. This course has three 1-hour sessions introducing concepts and experiences that can potentially lead to resilience.

The core of the modules is a set of simple and practical awareness exercises using both the external senses and the internal senses (interoception).

The aim is to have a working understandng of how the body has evolved to run itself.

This provides guidance as to how best to help it self-optimise and return to health. exercises are given a very broad yet accurate-enough theoretical explanation, based on an understanding of health.  When the human nervous system is framed in terms of health it looks very different from one viewed from the point of view of pathology.  The idea is that – when we understand health, it is easy to generate more health because we know where we are going and what is of importance.

In contrast, a pathology-oriented understanding of physiology and nervous system function focuses heavily on what we are trying to get away from; and therefore has no clearly defined route back to health. The material and its application is “non-trivial” – i.e. it cannot be understood intellectually without direct experience, the direct experience unfolds over time with application, and as there is more direct experience then there is more understanding.

Most people who attend this course will experience useful changes to their experience of Life, and gain some universally applicable life-skills

COURSE CONTENT

Thursday 5th December 2024 @ 19h UK Time

PART I

Feedback loops and conversation theory - how Life communicates with itself.

The first session takes a look at the conversations that coordinate homeostasis, allow volition (thought turns to action) and that make the genetic code useful.

Thursday 12th December 2024 @ 19h UK Time

PART II

Plan A / Plan B - A simple way to understand the Autonomic Nervous System.

This second session delves into the polarity of energy vs vegetation in more depth – when it works as it should and when it gets stuck.

Thursday 19th December 2024 @ 19h UK Time

PART III

Attention, meaning and time travel - the driving force of all living organisms.

The moment of “now” occupies more time than you might think !

From much less than a second up to almost a minute – and several time frames exist at once.

Andrew Cook qualified as a Reflexologist in 1998 working as a therapist and teaching others. He moved on to whole body treatment, training in Craniosacral Therapy in 1994.

He has a self-published paper on Cranial bone motion in a peer review journal and since then has further adapted CST to increase the effectiveness of his treatments. Andrew has applied PolyVagal Theory into his CST practice for over 15 years and teaches resilience workshops based on the same material.

Inspired by a conference on Dissociation, run by the ESTD Andrew took part in foundation training in trauma treatment with the SensoriMotor Psychotherapy Institute (SPI). Formative Embodiment is part of Andrew’s practice. Adding to his broad range of “Somatic” (body-based) Wellness-informed and Trauma-informed approaches to treatment.
