Fascia and Movement Efficiency

Homo sapiens is the weakest ape, through our evolution we sacrificed strength for efficiency. This presentation will explore why that came about, what have been the benefits and what are the costs.

Movement requires appropriate recruitment of many systems with our anatomy. This interactive and explorative lecture will look at the interplay between human form and function from an evolutionary point of view emphasising the roles of fascial tissues.

By appreciating the evolution of our shape and the changes in our tissues we can create a better understanding of how the soft tissues act through joints to control momentum, gravity and ground reaction forces travelling through our system. As therapists, we can then create novel and informed treatment strategies that support correct function for our clients which will serve them in the real world, not just in the gym.
