Gil Hedley has brought radical insights into our understanding of the human body through his innovative, original and deeply reverential approach to dissection. His intention in “cutting into the body” is to reveal the integral whole our human form represents. He says: “I created the word "somanaut" to describe those who explore the inner space of the body, and discover there the rich terrain of themselves.”
Although in manual therapy, we are massaging skin, superficial fascia, deep fascia, and muscles, in reality, it is all one. These distinctions are conceptual, yet necessary for a deeper understanding of what the body is about. Thus Gil lets the “somanaut” explore the “terrain” of the human anatomy through dissection as opposed (or in addition) to learning from “maps”, i.e. visual illustrations.
The purpose of this insight into the wholeness of the body and the interrelatedness of its different layers is for the “unity of the divine with these flesh and blood bodies of ours, and the sanctity of embodied life”, as Gil puts it, to reveal itself.
Gil is a highly entertaining and moving speaker who we are absolutely delighted to welcome for the first time onto our ehealth learning platform. In this unique webinar, Liz Stewart introduces Gil in a conversation about embodiment which is be followed by Gil answering questions from the audience.
